Academy Profession Level

An Academy Profession (AP) degree combines theory with practical training. Most programs take two years (120 ECTS), though some range from 1.5 to 2.5 years (90-150 ECTS). In this degree, students complete at least three months (15 ECTS) of work placement. Popular fields include marketing management, computer science, and biotechnical science. After earning an AP degree, students can continue with a Professional Bachelor's top-up program, which then takes about 1.5 years (90 ECTS).

Bachelor's Level

Denmark offers two primary types of Bachelor's degrees:

  • Professional Bachelor's Degree
This degree takes 3 to 4.5 years and prepares students for specific careers. Courses combine research-based learning with practical training, including projects, group work, and seminars. Work placements are part of the curriculum, giving students real-world experience. University colleges ('Professionshøjskoler') offer these programs in fields like engineering, IT management, nursing, and journalism. Graduates can enter the job market or continue to postgraduate studies.
  • University Bachelor's Degree
This three-year Bachelor’s degree focuses on one or two subjects. Students are required to complete a final project before graduating. This degree qualifies students to start working or move on to postgraduate education.

Master's Level

A Master's degree in Denmark typically requires 2 years of study (120 ECTS), though some programs may extend up to 180 ECTS. These degrees offer advanced theoretical and practical knowledge, preparing students for specialized professional roles or doctoral studies.

The PhD degree represents the pinnacle of academic achievement in Denmark. Spanning 3 years (180 ECTS), it involves conducting original research, contributing new insights to the chosen field, and defending a doctoral thesis. PhD candidates work closely with academic supervisors and may engage in teaching or industry collaborations.
